The Essence of Being a Leader

Leadership is not about your personality.

Leadership is not about your skills or abilities.

Leadership is not about your mom’s opinion.

Leadership – true leadership – is about…

SACRIFICE

Leading worship is such a unique arena for leadership.  In fact, you can take a step back and say that all stage-esque leadership is unique.  But as a worship leader, you are encouraged (or, often expected) to make an intimate connection, and gain the trust of, a room full of people who mostly don’t even know who you are.

How can you gain trust in an instant?

You can’t.  And you shouldn’t.

The awesome responsibility and privilege we have as worship leaders is to be used, by God, to speak into peoples’ lives.  His power flows through us, and His love shines down upon us.  It’s His glory that allows us to connect with the people, and ‘lead’ them into His presence.

With out Him in the equation… we are only feeding our own egos.
But when we allow him to not just come along side us, but to literally replace us (our wills, desires, and emotions)… THAT is when this strange act of leading worship can have amazing impact.

LET HIM SPEAK THROUGH YOU

The Art of Being Worship

True worship is just that… worship.

What is worship?

the act of expressing reverence towards a divine being

Many times we go through our “worship services” without actually engaging in the act of worship.

One of my favorite passages of scripture is in Romans, where Paul talks of a ‘living sacrifice’ and how that is to be our ‘spiritual act of worship.’

If we are to live spiritual lives, as Christians, it is our duty – our right – to live sacrificial lives.

Until we can truly do that, until we can ‘be worship,’ we have no right pretending to worship God during any service.

Be the church.  Be worship.  Be a follower of Christ.
